Tucson winter art shows

It's been an amazing fall/winter for art shows in Tucson. The Tucson Pastel Society had 3 juried shows so I have been busy getting work entered and ready to show.

The first show was at St Philips in the Foothills, it was the TPS Holiday Charity Show.

Holiday Show Reception

Here is the second show. I have 5 paintings in this show. I love that it is located in the historic Barrio in downtown Tucson. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the reception.

Escalante Canyon Arts Festival 2015

I love to attend this festival! It's such a welcoming community in Escalante Utah and the scenery is spectacular. This year the weather was wonderful and we reconnected with old friends and made new ones.

This the painting I entered in the competition.
"Escalante Arch" 8 x 10, pastel.
It sold at the silent auction.

Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site Artist in Residence 2015

Guest Hogan

Chuska

This year I was honored to have been chosen as Artist in Residence a Hubbell Trading Post. I was there for 2 weeks living in the guest hogan. I was able to explore the Navajo Nation and paint some of the beautiful areas there. I taught a "drawing a petroglyph" class to a group of Navajo children that were attending a summer camp at the site. It was an amazing experience.

Escalante Plein Air Festival 2014, Escalante Utah

The Escalante Plein Air Festival is held every fall in Escalante Utah in conjunction with Everett Ruess Days. Escalante Utah is a small town of about 800 folks in the heart of Escalante/Grand Staircase Monument. It is stunningly beautiful!

Summer on the San Francisco Peaks

It's been a beautiful summer in Flagstaff, the monsoons rains have been generous. The San Francisco Peaks are green and it has been a wonderful place to paint.

Three wonderful spring days in Tucson for a pastel workshop with Dawn Emerson. She introduced unusual tips and techniques using pastels, ink, pastel grounds, gouache, and everything else imaginable.

Tucson Pima County Arts Open Studio Tour 2013

Open Studio Tour in Tucson this year. It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed staying home and meeting new friends, neighbors and fellow artists.

Open Studio is always a good way to get feed back on your work, get an idea what people like. It's also a good opportunity to network with other local artists.

Etsy Store Opening

I've been busy these past few weeks getting an Etsy store open as a resource for marketing and selling my earrings. I'm trying to improve my photography skills because I can see that it makes a huge difference in how your product looks. It's been fun to experiment with different backgrounds and lighting.

Paint Out PAANA, August 2013

Paint Out at Picture Canyon, Flagstaff Arizona. Beautiful day, it was a scramble to get down to the waterfall. There are lots of petroglyphys along the canyon wall. A fair start to a painting, I haven't ever painted moving water like that, so it was challenging, as are rocks! Always the challenge!

North Rim Grand Canyon

Add caption
3 wonderful days of camping and painting at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with my friend Jane Mulrooney. I don't have a finished painting to show for it (yet!), we did some sketching, had one morning of painting and I took some photos and we got a lot of inspiration!

Drawing workshop at The Peaks Senior Living, Flagstaff AZ

This is my first art teaching experience. The first class I had 10 students/residents of The Peaks. We had a lot of fun, a few of the folks had drawing/painting experience. It was wonderful to see them all enjoying the experience!

Workshop in Phoenix at Arizona Artists Guild with Kim Lordier, a very talented plein air pastel artist from California. I really enjoyed it and feel "newly" inspired, great practice in creating a notan thumbnail and painting in different value ranges.
